Awareness — Practitioner — Implementation

AS9100, AS13100 & ISO standards training.

In-house Awareness and Practitioner courses, delivered on your site or remotely, by engineers who have worked to these standards and methods in aerospace, defence, automotive and nuclear production — followed by hands-on implementation support so the system actually gets used.

§01 — Status Board

Where each standard stands

Current editions and transition deadlines, as at September 2026. Two live transitions are running right now.

StandardCurrent editionWhat's changingTransition deadline
AS9100 Rev D (2016) Successor being renamed IA9100, replacing the AS/EN/JISQ variants with one global document. Not yet published. Not set
AS13100 Rev A (April 2025) Recently revised. The RM13xxx reference manuals are updated separately and more often. Contractual
ISO 9001 2015 + Amd 1:2024 New 2026 edition due 16 September 2026 — quality culture, clearer risk treatment, new interpretive annex. ~3 yrs, TBC
ISO 14001 2026 (15 Apr 2026) Published — the 2015 edition is withdrawn. Transition is live now. April 2029
ISO 27001 2022 + Amd 1:2024 Stable. The 2013 transition closed in October 2025. Closed
ISO 45001 2018 + Amd 1:2024 Revision at draft ballot stage; publication expected 2027. Not set

Where a deadline shows as TBC or not set, no accreditation body has confirmed one — anybody quoting you a firm date for ISO 9001:2026 or IA9100 is guessing. We update this board as positions are confirmed.

§02 — Course Formats

Two levels, one purpose

Scoped to who is in the room, because the wider workforce and the system owner need very different things.

A

Awareness

For the wider workforce. What the standard actually asks of them, why the questions get asked in an audit, and what "good" looks like at their bench or desk — in plain language, without the clause-by-clause grind.

P

Practitioner

For the people who implement, audit or own the management system. Requirements worked through against your own processes, documents and evidence, so the output is a system you can defend rather than a certificate of attendance.

Both formats run on your site or remotely, and can be combined across standards where you operate an integrated management system — ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 share a common structure, so training them together avoids covering the same clauses three times.

§03 — Standards

What each one covers

Scope, who it applies to, and where the current revision sits.

AS9100

Rev D · 2016

Quality management for aviation, space and defence.

ISO 9001 in full, plus the sector requirements that sit on top of it: configuration management, product safety, counterfeit part prevention, risk management, first article inspection and control of special processes.

It applies across the aviation, space and defence supply chain — primes through to lower-tier suppliers — and is normally flowed down contractually. Related schemes cover maintenance organisations (9110) and distributors (9120).

On the next revision: the successor is being renamed IA9100, consolidating the regional AS, EN and JISQ variants into a single international document. It has not been published and no transition deadline exists. We'll cover it as soon as there is something real to teach.

AS13100

Rev A · April 2025

AESQ quality requirements for the aero engine supply chain.

Supplemental requirements layered on top of AS9100 and AS9145, written for aero engine design and production. It's structured in three parts: Chapter A supplements AS9100, Chapter B supplements AS9145 for APQP and PPAP, and Chapter C adds the AESQ defect-prevention toolset.

AESQ was founded by Rolls-Royce, GE, Pratt & Whitney and Safran Aircraft Engines, and the standard reaches you by purchase order or contract rather than by choice.

Worth being clear about: AS13100 is not an accredited certification scheme in the way AS9100 is. Compliance is normally demonstrated by self-assessment against RM13009 plus customer or second-party audit. If a provider offers you "AS13100 certification", ask exactly what they mean by it.

Reference manuals covered
  • RM13000 Problem solving, including 8D
  • RM13002 Alternate inspection frequency plans
  • RM13003 Measurement systems analysis
  • RM13004 Defect prevention tools for APQP & PPAP
  • RM13005 Quality audit requirements
  • RM13006 Process control methods, including SPC
  • RM13007 Sub-tier supply chain management
  • RM13008 Design work
  • RM13009 Compliance self-assessment
  • RM13010 Human factors
  • RM13011 Rework and production repair
  • RM13102 First article inspection
  • RM13145 APQP and PPAP in aerospace

The manuals themselves are free to download from AESQ — the value we add is applying them to your processes, not reading them to you.

ISO 9001

2015 + Amd 1:2024 · new edition due 16 Sep 2026

Quality management systems.

The baseline for consistently delivering conforming product and service, and frequently a prerequisite in tenders and customer approvals. Around a million certificates are held worldwide.

The 2026 edition: due for publication on 16 September 2026. Expected changes include a clearer separation of risks and opportunities, a stronger emphasis on quality culture and ethical behaviour, strengthened change management, and a new informative annex clarifying terminology and intent. The process approach and core framework are retained, so this is a transition rather than a rebuild. A three-year transition window is anticipated but has not been formally confirmed by the accreditation bodies.

ISO 14001

2026 · published 15 April 2026

Environmental management systems.

The 2026 edition is published and the 2015 edition is withdrawn, which makes this the most pressing transition on the board. Organisations need to move across by April 2029.

Changes include an expanded view of environmental context — climate change, biodiversity, pollution and resource availability — a clarified lifecycle perspective, stronger change management, and closer integration between environmental objectives and business strategy.

Common in UK tendering: environmental certification is regularly a pre-qualification requirement on public-sector and tier-one work.

ISO 27001

2022 + Amd 1:2024

Information security management systems.

Establishing and running an ISMS — risk assessment and treatment, and the Annex A control set. The 2024 amendment adds climate-change consideration to the context clauses. The 2013 to 2022 transition closed in October 2025, so all valid certificates now reference the 2022 edition.

In defence and aerospace work it typically sits alongside, not instead of, scheme requirements such as Cyber Essentials — driven by client due diligence and supply chain assurance.

ISO 45001

2018 + Amd 1:2024

Occupational health and safety management systems.

Eliminating hazards and reducing OH&S risk, with a heavy emphasis on leadership accountability and genuine worker participation — the part organisations most often under-do.

Revision in progress: currently at draft ballot stage with publication expected in 2027. No transition deadline exists yet, so there is nothing to act on today beyond keeping the current system healthy.

Lean & Continuous Improvement

Method · not a certifiable standard

Improving how the work actually runs.

Awareness covers what waste really looks like on a line or in an office, why flow matters more than local efficiency, and the everyday tools — 5S, standard work, visual management — so improvement stops feeling like something done to people.

Practitioner goes into value stream mapping, structured problem solving with A3, changeover reduction, total productive maintenance and how to run a kaizen event that holds its gains once everyone goes back to the day job.

Worth being clear about: Lean isn't a standard and there's no certificate at the end. We also don't run belt-grading — that's a separate certification ecosystem. What you get is a team that can find and fix its own problems, which is the point of it.

§04 — Afterwards

Training that survives contact

The gap between a trained team and a working system is where most certification effort is lost.

Add-on

20-Hour Implementation Package

A focused block of hands-on consultancy run straight after any course, to turn training into a working management system rather than a folder of notes — gap analysis against the standard, documentation support, and embedded coaching until the team is running it themselves.

§05 — Questions

Before you book

The things worth settling before a course is scheduled.

Awareness or Practitioner — which do we need?+

If people need to understand what the standard asks of them day to day, that's Awareness, and it can run for a whole department. If someone has to build, audit or own the system, that's Practitioner, and it works best with a small group and your real documentation in the room.

Can we hold an AS13100 certificate?+

Not in the accredited sense. AS13100 compliance is normally demonstrated through self-assessment against RM13009 and customer or second-party audit, rather than a UKAS-accredited certificate like AS9100. Training prepares your team for that assessment route.

Do we have to move to ISO 14001:2026 now?+

Yes, though not overnight. The 2015 edition is withdrawn and the transition runs to April 2029. Starting early is cheaper than starting late — organisations that leave it until the final year tend to end up paying for a rush.

Should we wait for ISO 9001:2026 before training?+

Usually not. The core framework and process approach carry over, so training against the current edition isn't wasted work. If your certification renewal falls after the transition window opens, we'd cover the delta rather than run the whole course twice.

Can you train several standards together?+

Yes, and it's usually the sensible route. ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 share a common high-level structure, so an integrated session covers the shared clauses once and then handles what's genuinely different in each.

On our site, or remote?+

Either. On-site suits Practitioner work, where having your processes, records and the actual shop floor to hand makes the session concrete. Remote suits Awareness sessions and teams spread across locations.
